Black Friday Challenge

Yes, we know that it's Saturday - thank you very much - but since people are still running around the shops & stores like mental patients on fire, I think that we're going to be OK. . .;)

Whether or we are or not, the challenge is to create a project inspired by shopping and using the color black sometime between Target, Best Buy, and the drive-thru at McDonald's. Post a link to it on Bugaboo Stamps' challenge blog, Catch the Bug, by 12/04/2010 at 7:00 AM EST to be entered in a random drawing for three digi prize packs - seven, four, or two digital images!

Frosty the Freebie. . .

Given that it's 81 degrees here in Austin, TX (US), the whole snowman-thing is kinda lost on me. However, since it's -11 (Yes, that's a negative 11!) degrees in Saskatoon, SK (CAN), I'm willing to let Jodie slide this time.

That's right, Santa Claus knows darn well who's being nice. . .;)

This week's Freebie Friday image at Bugaboo Stamps is nameless as I type this, but I'll call him Silver Bells Snowman for now. You can download him for free here. You can purchase the rest of his snowy siblings here. And, you can see still others on our challenge blog, Catch the Bug.

Also, today ONLY, for Black Friday, you can win your entire purchase for free!
Details can be found here. 50% off AND a chance to win your entire for free? SWEET!

Note: Every attempt is made to get digi images uploaded to the store by noon EST for Freebie Friday, but please accept our apologies and check back later in the day if they're not there at that time.

11/22/2010 Open Mike Monday (OMM)

Did you know that you can tell a lot about a person by their idiosyncratic behavior? ;)

Question: What is your creating ritual? In other words, what has to be in place/occur for you to create?

Cammy: I usually need something really interesting on TV to occupy children (if they are awake) for me to do things. LOL! A somewhat clean desk is ALWAYS helpful, as well as a great sketch and fabulous image. A bit of chocolate never hurts either - just make sure there isn't any left on your fingers.

Jackie: Well for some reason I tend to color my images and then go from there. Once all my images are colored that I using or working with then I move on to paper selection and I decide if I want to enter any challenges or not. I have tried to start with a challenge first and then color, but that seems to lead to headaches later on for some reason. It also helps if there is music or a tv on, not sure why, but it does.

Jenny: I'm pretty sure I have OCD so things MUST be in order before I can sit down and create. On the same note, everything must be put away when I'm done with one card. I can NOT create when things are a mess! I can only listen to music when I'm mass producing and I rarely eat when I'm creating. I guess you could say I need concentration at all time to get my MoJo flowing. Pretty boring huh?

Jodie: well, I don't create beautiful cards like my DT, but when creating digi stamps.....I need Peace and quiet - no interruptions. So I usually end up creating at night when the kids are in bed. I also need imagination and WANT to do it. In 9 years of drawing I have never been able to draw when i am mad for stressed...LOL....

Joy: I need music. Clean desk....what's that? LOL

Melissa: I really like to get the top of my work table cleaned up and organized. Because once I get started it looks like a bomb went off. I don't really clean up as I go too much except I will put th things back that are close at hand. We should all post a photo before and after a project.

Min: CAFFEINE and a fabulous image!! I'm with Joy - Clean desk - what the heck is that?! ;D

Rae Anne: I  have to be caught up on e-mail, personal, Catch the Bug, and Bugaboo Stamps blog posts, Google Reader (including commenting), commenting on Catch the Bug challenge entrants' blogs, and the Bugaboo Stamps DT group at Paper Craft Planet.

Scrappy: I don't need anything except for my supplies to get started. However, lately, I am most productive just after I've tidied my stamp room, my daughter is asleep, hubby is occupied, I have a nice glass of wine and I'm listening to Joy's blog music! (OK...I listen to mine too...sometimes! :p)

Now, if you're like me, you won't be able to create until you visit our challenge blog, Catch the Bug, to see what Lori's created for ABC Monday. . .;)

Shiver Me Timbers, It's Freebie Friday!

Bugaboo Stamps's 11/2010 newsletter featured a free pirate image for subscribers. Before you could shout "Avast, ye scurvy dogs!," the DT had pounced on Jodie (like a sailor on shore leave) threatening, "Tell us ye got more of' 'em pirate images or it's the gangplank for the likes o' ye!"

Since Jodie has an aversion to drowning, this week's Freebie Friday, image is A Kid's View Pirates | Anchor. X marks the spot, but there's more treasure to be found here.

Note: Every attempt is made to get digi images uploaded to the store by noon EST for Freebie Friday, but please accept our apologies and check back later in the day if they're not there at that time.

11/15/2010 Open Mike Monday (OMM)

Back to my not-so-subtle attempts to find out what makes my fellow Bugaboo Stamps DT members tick. . .:D

Question: What was the last movie that you watched?

Cammy: Just watched The Blind Side. I really enjoyed it -- I thought Sandra Bullock was amazing and couldn't believe how different Tim McGraw looked. (I personally think he looks better in the cowboy hat, tight jeans and goatee.)

Jackie: Well, by the time you read this I am thinking that I will have watched another movie, but as of right the last movie I watched was Pretty Woman. It was on TV, and I haven't seen it in years, so sat back and enjoyed it!

Jenny: The last good movie I saw was Seven Pounds. Oh man......I cried like a BABY!!!!!!! You ever have one of those movies that sticks with you for a couple of days? This one stuck with me for at least a week. Very good, but so sad!

Jodie: Last movie i watched was Land of the lost with Will Ferrell. I love comedies! I cant wait to see Jim Carrey's a Christmas Carol on the 16th!!

Joy: I watched either RED or Life As We Know IT, I can't remember, I watch so many movies. The last one I watched at home was Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince- in prep for the new movie coming out!

Lori: I think the last movie I watched (rented) was Date Night which was kind of funny, in a stupid kind of way. The last movie I saw in the theater was the most recent Twilight movie and I saw that with my daughter who is most definitely Team Jacob. I have to say I agree with Sandye, Bella made a VERY poor choice. :)

Melissa: I could hav sworn I filled this out. The last movie I went to see in the Theater was The Expendables, Sylvester, Mickey Rourke....all the action heros. I can't wait to go see Red, that will be fun I think. The last movie I watched at home with my Granddaughters was Toy Story 3 Wed evening. Cute story.

Michele: Keep!

Min: Been forever since we've been to the movie theatre (think back like when Tallageda Nights was released), but we got a few movies for Christmas - The Hang Over or The Blind Side - talk about opposite ends of the spectrum! Stupid Funny and Seriously Heart-Warming! :).

Rae Anne: Just last night I watched Joyeux Noel.

Sandye: If I tell you that I'm having a hard time remembering, does that tell you long it has been? I think it was the last Twilight movie. Jim and I and our four grandchildren went to the movies (summertime!). The girls and I saw whatever was the current Twilight movie; Jim and our grandson saw Toy Story II. Before that movie, I was an Edward fan--but after I saw how Jacob has aged, I think I might switch sides! I'm afraid Bella made a poor decision :)

Scrappy: It's been AWHILE. . .but the last movie I saw (out) was the Sex and the City sequel with the girls from my mommy group and LOVED it! :D

Tammy: I.

Lesley (GD for 11/2010): Friday night I went to see Morning Glory with some friends. It was okay, I thought it would have been more of a love story but it's not. I am a die hard love story person :)

It's ABC Monday on our challenge blog, Catch the Bug, and I don't think I did too badly. . .;)

World Kindness Day Challenge

She's baa-aaack! I can't tell you who "she" is because I can only whisper her name between the hours of 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM every other Sunday - It's that holy. . .;) PSST. . .read the watermark. . .;)

If you weren't already aware of it, today is World Kindness Day. I absolutely refuse to sink into schmaltzy sentiment believing that actions speak far louder than words. So, let me just encourage you (and myself) to make a card  using the sketch below for someone else - whether you give it to a friend or family member or you donate it to a good cause - step outside of yourself. But, make sure you post a photo of it on our challenge blog, Catch the Bug first. There's nothing wrong with being eligible for more than a pat on the back when doing something kind. . .;)

Harry Potter movie, we've released a second helping of digital images here that're inspired by the characters at Pigpimple's, or Hogwart's, or whatever it's called. . .;)

But before you dash off, stop by our challenge blog, Catch the Bug, to see what magic (and maybe a little mayhem) the DT's created for you.

    11/08/2010 Open Mike Monday (OMM)

Let's consider this a special editon of Open Mike Monday that encourages those of you that are still wrestling with the decision to answer our DT call here. . .:D

Question: What advice would you give someone applying for a DT position?

Cammy: On top of these fabulous tips that everyone has listed - stay true to yourself. Don't change your style to apply to a DT -- kind of goes hand in hand with what Lori said -- make sure you love it and that you can do you best with the products your are given. I can thank my husband that piece of advice -- he told me that -- Keep doing what you are doing! Don't change because others have different styles -- they just might be looking for that different style and breath of fresh air.

Jackie: That's a tough one, I would say believe in yourself and take chances. If you are considering applying, just got for it and try something new when applying, it could pay off :)

Jenny: You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by applying. If you don't make it the first time around, keep applying and don't give up! In the mean time get to know the DT members, play in the company challenges, make cards/projects using the companies images and post to your blog, chat in the public forums. It is hard to turn someone down who is showing dedication to the company =)

Jodie: I agree with Lori, if you don't love the company you are applying for, it will show. If you love it, your creativity will shine! Don't be afraid to apply, you never know unless you do! Take the chance. And mostly don't take it personally if you are not chosen. it doesn't mean your creations are not good, the DT could be looking for something different. try try again, what one company may not have been looking for another may LOVE! ANd lastly, I agree, keep your blog updated, and be sure you can commit as some DTs are quite busy! Create what comes naturally to you, now what you THINK they want. You will shine the most.

Joy: Don't give up! Keep applying, make sure you have a variety of projects on your blog and up to date!

Lori: First and foremost, make sure you love the company that you are applying to work with. If you dont' love it, you won't be able to really show off thier product with your work. Second, make sure you have the time to commit to the company and the DT responsibilities. It's easy to get caught up in wanting to add to your crafting "resume" but it helps everyone involved if you make sure you can really follow through with your commitments. On a personal level, try not to feel bad for doubt your abilities if you don't get selected. Your stype might not be what one company is looking for, but another might snatch you up in a second, try not to take it personally if you don't get chosen the first time you apply. Keep trying and you never know what doors might open for you.

Michele: Keep applying, the worst they can tell you is no, but dont' take it personally!

Min: Take a chance and APPLY APPLY APPLY!! If you have a passion for a company's products, your passion will show thru in the things you create.

Rae Anne: I already talked about this ad nauseam here.

Sandye: My advice would be very similar to jackie--take chances! If you think you can do it, go for it! Find out a lote about the company. Try out their stamps/images. Share your best work, and be sure to include something from that company!

Scrappy: Don't get discouraged if you aren't chosen. You have no idea what any design team is looking for afterall! Besides, you have nothing to lose and all to gain if you keep on applying! For every door that closes, another opens! :)

Tammy: I have to agree with Jenny. Also make sure your blog is up to date meaning several different projects that are current and having at least one image from that company displayed means alot! Also ask questions, for example if you are worried about the assignments ask b/c we put the max on it so there is no question however assignments tend to be lighter we just don't want someone to be shocked.

Melissa's create some darling notebooks for ABC Monday on our challenge blog, Catch the Bug, so why dont' you drop by and leave her some ooh and aah! :D

What is about penguins that makes them so much fun? Their tuxedo? Their waddle? Their pudgy little bum-bums? While I may not know the answer, I do know that is a collection that I simply can't wait to see (and snag!). Poppi Penguin Christmas is now on sale here!

Note: Bugaboo Stamps makes every attempt to get our digital images uploaded to the store by noon EST for New Release Tuesday, but please accept our apologies and check back later in the day if they're not there at that time.

    11/01/2010 Open Mike Monday (OMM)

Have you noticed a trend? A craft-related question and then a non-craft related question? ;)

Question: Who makes your favorite rubber or acrylic stamps?

Cammy: I have to say Paper Pretties. As you know, I LOVE & ADORE cute kid stamps and Sophia and Cooper are right up my alley. With all the new sets being released now that they are under new ownership, my collection is growing again. I'm happy to report quite a few have actually seen ink.

Jeanie (IS BACK!!!): Ooooh I have so many I like, it's hard to say which is my favorite (besides Bugaboo that is!) Hmmmm, ok here goes.... Stamping Bella, MFT, Whipper Snapper, PTI, Ladybug Crafts Ink, The Greeting Farm, Moonlight Whispers, Penny Black.

Jenny: I love PTI and Verve's clear stamps the best!

Joy: i would have to say it's a toss up of MFT and Papertrey. I love the stamps and dies for both!

Melissa: On this one is easy. Tim Holtz! They are very versatile sets and they are great to use as a main image or as accents. I have to admit though I rarely make anything these days that is not Digi Stamp related. It sure didn't take me long to fall in love with these things.

Michele: This is easy! I love There She Goes stamps they are fun and different - but I also have a weakness for PTI.

Min: I fell in love with House Mouse Stamps....before I found Bugaboo. I love the cute little mice MUCH MORE in rubber, not so much when they build their wither home in our grill!

Paul: The only other company that I have a LOAD of is Elzybells. It's a shame they went out of business recently as they were producing brilliant things.

Rae Anne: The Cat's Pajamas in acrylic stamps and A Muse Art Stamps in rubber stamps.

Sandye: Easy answer for me! It is Papertrey Ink--my second favorite stamp/image company. Of course, Bugaboo is first!!!!!

Tammy: I like Melissa have to admit that I rarely "stamp" these days due to my love of Bugaboo, the ease and versatility of digi stamps however some of my favs, I have a lot that is why I have so many sets that I no longer use, but love Whipper snapper, Rosies Roadshow, Stamping Bellas, Mft, Pti, see I told you it was long, my problem is I don't have favorites, I like them all!

Lesley: (GD for 11/2010): I would have to say that The Greeting Farm and Stamping Bella are my favorite rubber stamps but I rarely buy them anymore with all the cute digi's that are out there.
